Who Is a Good Candidate?
Restrictive surgery options may be ideal for you if:
- You have not been able to lose weight with other treatments
- You have a BMI of 40 or above, or over 30 with a serious weight-related condition like diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease
- You are between ages 16 and 70 and are healthy enough to undergo surgery

Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Plication (LGCP)

A laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a bariatric surgery that reduces the size of the stomach. This allows patients to feel full after eating much smaller amounts of food. The decreased consumption of calories therefore leads to major weight loss.
You will be placed under general anesthesia and your doctor will create five small incisions in your abdomen. He will use these incisions to insert a camera and surgical tools. A portion of your stomach will be removed and the remaining part will be closed and shaped into something resembling a tube, banana, or shirt sleeve. Your intestines will not be altered in any way for this restrictive bariatric surgery.
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding Surgery
More commonly known as LAP-BAND, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery is the least invasive surgical weight loss procedure. Your stomach is not cut or removed, and your intestines remain fully intact. Instead, a small constrictive band is placed around the upper portion of your stomach. This will be able to hold only a small amount of food at a time, so you will feel full very quickly. Then, the food will flow slowly through the band into the lower part of your stomach, and then through your intestines like normal.
